IIID was founded in 1986 by Peter Simlinger as a non-profit-making membership organisation.
Over the years IIID has contributed significantly towards developing information design as an independent interdisciplinary field of knowledge and professional practice. Our aim is to document relevant information and make it generally accessible, to carry out research within our possibilities and in co-operation with our members and to find new ways of incorporating information design in education.
Through interdisciplinary and international co-operation IIID has established links to renowned universities, research laboratories and design companies (see Members Network).
This is the first edition of what will become a regular feature for IIID: the Yearbook. The Yearbook gives an overview of our own activities, and it is a chance to see what our Word Regional Representatives (WRRs) have to say about what’s happening in their part of the world: IIID Yearbook 2016.
Information about IIID’s aims and activities are outlined in the IIID brochure.
IIID is recommended by UNESCO as a partner organization for world wide co-operation on matters of information design (Resolution 4.9 of the 28th General Conference of UNESCO, 1995, Paris).
IIID is an Associate of the OECD Global Project on "Measuring the Progress of Societies".
IIID is affiliated to the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA) and co-operates with an number of other national and international organizations, interested in information design.
