The Ibuproject seeks to develop pictographic instructions for a simple painkiller, Ibuprofen. It is sold all over the world. But many people can’t read the package leaflet: people who have difficulty reading or do not understand the language spoken around them.
Two communication designers, one artist, and two physicians, Karel (Belgium), Mandar (India), Juli (Germany), and Shuhan (USA) aim to translate the essence of endless written instructions into signs, lined up like words, together with all those who would like to get involved. Nobody tackled this before.
The Ibuproject is meant to be a pilot. It is backed by the vision that pictographic communication will become a norm on medicine instruction leaflets and popular in many other other contexts: for preparing meals, for house rules, on parking tickets and much more.
