MSc Traffic & Transport Information Design:
General Information

The International Institute for Information Design (IIID) is proud to announce its first international MSc course. Focused on Traffic & Transport Information Design and organized in close co-operation with FH St. Poelten University of Applied Sciences (FHSTP), Austria, the course has been developed with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) and accredited by the "Fachhochschulrat" (FH Council). It will start 12 March 2012 (application deadline: 1 March 2012). Taught by top experts from more than 10 countries, it is the first in a series of courses IIID is authorized to operate under the auspices of UNESCO.

Traffic & Transport Information Design not only embraces subjects like wayshowing, wayfinding and signage design, it also covers sound,
haptic and olfactoric information, mobile devices, global navigation satellite and in-car navigation systems, real-time traffic information, danger warning, rescue and escape information, evaluation methods and contract management.

The course consists of four modules followed by a master thesis in the fifth semester.

Students who wish to only enrol in specific modules of the course may opt for a “Certificate of Competence (CoC)”:
- CoC in Multimodal Information Design (covering semesters 1 and 2)
- CoC in Traffic & Transport Information Design (covering semesters 3 and 4)

The five-semester MSc course contains 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits. Based on distance teaching, it has one
blocked module, once every semester, on the spot at the FH St. Poelten. The course offers seminal opportunities to BA and BSc graduates of disciplines like Information Design, (Visual) Communications Design and Graphic Design. Interested applicants with subject related backgrounds from disciplines other than design could also be
interested. Proven life experience increases the probability of acceptance to the course, and can be used in lieu of a design-related background.

CoC students enjoy the same teachings and supervision as MSc students do. However, the CoC is not an internationally acknowledged certificate governed by regulations underlying the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). The CoC, approved by IIID, is a certificate issued by the FH St. Poelten out of its own power of authority. After successful completion of semesters 1 to 4 and the payment of an additional fee CoC students conforming with ECTS requirements may apply for being accepted for semester 5 (Master thesis). This would enable them to acquire a MSc.

Cost Overview

MSc Traffic & Transport Information Design 5 Semesters € 17.000 (-10% for payment upfront)
CoC Multimodal

CoC Traffic & Public Transport Information Design 2 Semesters € 7.000
