In order to develop the key issues
IIID estabishes world wide contacts with
— information designers
— consultancies and research institutes
— universities
— commercial enterprises and
— design promotional institutions.
To provide a forum for discussion and the exchange of experience
IIID organizes "Vision Plus", an annual international
and interdisciplinary symposium under the patronage of UNESCO.
The Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Transport acts
as a co-organizer since 1996. Until 1998 IIID enjoyed the
partnership of the Fachhochschul-Studiengänge-Vorarlberg.
The first time Vision Plus took place outside of Austria was
in 1998 together with Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh,
USA. 1999 Vision Plus 7 was staged in Japan, a joint event
with Tama Art University, Tokyo.
IIID is aiming at documenting important Vision Plus presentations.
Until July 1998 twentyone "Vision Plus Monographs"
have been published. The presentations given in Pittsburgh
have been documented by Carnegie Mellon University: A Vision
Plus 4 proceedings book is available from CMU.
In addition the following projects are developed:
— ID News, the IIID newsletter
— IIID Expert Groups / "Flying University"
for the development of ID competence and
the introduction of ID
as a university subject
— Information Design University: The development of
an ID programme of post-graduate studies
in co-operation with experts
of renowned universities and design consultancies worldwide
— Documentation of the services of ID research
institutions
— Graphic Design Basic Reading List (in cooperation
with ICOGRADA)
— Survey on ID related standards and regulations
— Data bank of theses and dissertations in ID
— The teachings of Ernst Hoch at the Department
of Typography and Graphic Communication,
University of Reading,
England
Furthermore IIID co-operates with the Information Design Journal
(IDJ), John Benjamins Publishing Co.,The Netherlands.
